The 18-year old boy after being tagged and labeled as Naxalite has been killed by the police last year. His father, Sulo Kashyap has moved to Chhattisgarh high court to seek justice and protection of his family from the constant abuse of the authorities. He has alleged that the authorities are trying to silence their voices against the cold-blooded murder of his son.
Justice Gautam Bhaduri had directed the Jagdalpur Police to ensure the safety of Sulo earlier this month as the matter is pending before the court.
He has alleged in the petition that his son Arjun was labeled as an absconding naxalite by the authorities and was killed in August 2016. He further alleged that the authorities have harassed him and pressurized him by various tactics such as offering of land to keep him shut with regard to brutal cold-blooded murder of his son.
In his petition, he stated that police forcibly picked his son Arjun on the night of 15 August 2015 from their house.
Bastar Police on August 16, 2016 claimed that the Maoists’ Jan Militia Commander, Arjun was gunned down by composite team of security forces inclusive of special task force, district force and the district reserve group in the forest of Chandameta. The police claimed that the incident happened after an hour-long gunbattle with the Maoists and Arjun has been involved in three major accidents in which the innocents were killed.
Arjun was already appearing before the Juvenile Justice Board against his arrest made in 2015 for being a naxalite. He was represented by Jagdalpur legal aid group. The last hearing was attended by him 20 days before of his alleged encounter. Arjun is survived by his widow and family.
The family of Arjun has been harassed by the police after his death and his father Sulo has been taken into custody by police and tortured on various occasions,
For his and family’s safety, he has filed the present petition before the Chhattisgarh high court.
Sulo also requested that record relating to the operation in which Arjun was killed and his post-mortem video be produced before the court. Besides, he sought interim compensation/financial assistance to his family and Arjun’s widow.
