A strike has been called by the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena for the cab drivers of Ola and Uber from Monday, claiming that a big number of drivers are unable to recover costs due to falling business. The Union leaders say that drivers from other cities like New Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Pune shall also join the strike soon.
As per the statement of Sanjay Naik of Maharashtra Navnirman Vahatuk Sena, the Ola and Uber though assured the drivers who have invested INR 5-7 lakhs and were expecting INR 1.5 lakh a month, but the drivers are unable to recover even half of that for the reason of mismanagement by the accused companies. He also made an allegation on the companies that they give the company owned cars a first priority than driver owned vehicles which is making the business of the driver owned vehicles to sink.
They are determined to continue with the strike till their demands are fulfilled by the companies. Meanwhile, Police has issued notice under the Sec. 149 of CrPC (for unlawful assembly) against the Union leaders - Sanjay Naik, president, Arif Shaikh and Nitin Nandgaonkar of the Maharashtra Navnirman Vahatuk Sena as a precautionary measure. Pandit Thorat, senior inspector of Andheri police station said that in case of violation of any order, action shall be taken against them.
Though there are more than 45000 of driver owned cans in Mumbai alone, but there is about 20 percent drop in their numbers. The accused companies is keeping a distance from the matter said that they have been assured by the Mumbai Police regarding the safety of the commuters during the cab rides in the city.
