To track the lost packages amazon has been asking its customers to upload the details of their Aadhaar. Initially, the Zoomcar stated that no bookings will be accepted by them if details of aadhar are not provided. With the companies like Amazon and other online companies making it mandatory to link their aadhaar details the question which arise is whether the said linking is safe or not?
The answer to this can be hinted from the last year tweets of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) wherein the authority has tweeted not to share the aadhaar number with a third person and if the submission of aadhaar card is required , then it is cautious that the document should be self attested and the mention the purpose for which aadhaar is being submitted. The caution provided by the UIDAI in the tweet was to aware public and stop the misuse of one’s aadhaar by others.
Even the UIDAI suspects the misuse of aadhaar by the third party. So is it safe to provide the aadhaar details to these online retailers. Though Amazon says that they have security to store such important information.
However, the officials of the Amazon has said that the amazon is continuously looking more most robust towards customer support. The official further said that the customers are required to upload the scanned copy of their aadhaar card in the amazon.in account for the missing cheque or wrong delivery. He claimed that Amazon.in is a secure form of storing information.
The experts on the matter state that the providing aadhaar details in such manner can impose privacy risk and the use of aadhar information and customers information can lead to individual profiling.
