After almost seven years of the murder of veteran journalist Jyotirmoy Dey, a Mumbai court convicted gangster Chhota Rajan. Former journalist Jigna Vora, who was accused of instigating Chhota Rajan for the murder, gets acquitted due to lack of evidence.

What had happened exactly:
Mr. Jyotirmoy Dey, a 56-year-old crime reporter, was shot dead in broad daylight on 11th June 2011. He was working with Midday Eveninger, was planning to do a compilation of the stories of 20 gangsters and naming it “Chindi - Rags to Riches”.

The report said in that book, Chhota Rajan was being portrayed as a small-time crook, which annoyed him. He hired a contract killer, Satish Kalia, for INR 5 lakh to kill Dey. Satish was provided with only the physical description and the number of two-wheelers, Dey’s name was unknown to him. From the CCTV footage, it was clear that he was closely shot 5 times by men riding on two motorcycles including Satish himself.

Dey was rushed to the nearby Hiranandani hospital nearby where he died. This became a hot topic in media and they started covering the news, which panicked the hitmen. They tried to abscond but was tracked down and arrested from Rameshwaram, Solapur, and Mumbai. Chhota Rajan was deported from Bali, Indonesia to India.

The story took a turn when a journalist Jigna Vora, was arrested after three months for having a connection with this incident. She was working with Asian Age, Mumbai. She was allegedly having a connection with Chhota Rajan to kill Dey, as she had a professional rivalry with him. It was suspected that she had been provided with the address and vehicle number of Dey.
