The Supreme Court on Wednesday ordered the real estate giant Unitech developer to make a refund of Rs 16 crore to 39 flat buyers in the case of not completing housing project Vista in Gurugram on time. The apex court refused to rely on the assurance of possession by 2017.

The Supreme Court has directed Unitech to deposit the remaining 2 crore in four weeks.

Unitech has already deposited over Rs 15 crore to the investors.

The next hearing in the case will take place on January 2.

Notably, more than two dozen home buyers of Unitech’s housing projects in Noida and Gurugram had approached the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission after the builder failed to give them possession of the flats as scheduled. The Commission had asked Unitech to refund the home buyers, with interest.
