Aadhaar Card is a 12 digit unique identification number issued to every citizen of India to help the government in establishing a unique identity for every individual. It serves as a proof of identity and proof of address of every Indian citizen all over the country.
Aadhaar card acts as an identity proof in India and upon proper verification, it collects and stores the biometric and demographic data of every individual in a centralized database. The data is collected by UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India), a statutory authority established in January 2009 by the Government of India under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology following the provision of the Aadhaar Act, 2016.
